Antispyware:
G Data Internet Security 2011 is another one of those internet security suites that decided to roll its antispyware options into its antivirus capabilities. With this program, it's impossible to tell whether or not the program even has antispyware features because they aren't clearly delineated. One would suspect that they merged their antivirus and antispyware functions to the point where they're synonymous with one another. Anyone who knows a thing or two about computer security would tell you that battles with viruses and those with spyware are two completely different conflicts.
Antivirus:
G Data Internet Security shines in the area of antivirus capabilities, which is probably a result of G Data having its own powerful antivirus scanner. Indeed the entire suite’s interface revolves around the antivirus options in this program. Other features seem to be little more than minor additions of dubious utility. You can scan your computer, memory and startup, directories and files, removable media and rootkits for viruses. The internet security software also gives you the ability to schedule virus scans, create a boot CD, quarantine incoming infections and view logs of your program's activity.
Firewall:
The firewall feature in G Data Internet Security can help you monitor the networks connected to your computer, create special rule sets for incoming threats and view logs of your firewall's activity. This feature is only as effective as the rules you create for it, so you have to stay on top of things for it to work correctly.
Other Security/Features:
In addition to the other features in G Data Internet Security, you can also take advantage of web, email, spam and phishing protection and parental controls. Each of these features is helpful in and of themselves, but they aren't strong enough to stand on their own. The best internet security suites have features that are able to stand alone as independent programs.
Ease of Use:
All of the features in G Data Internet Security are rolled into the same interface, but that's sort of a mixed blessing. The interface consists of the antivirus features at the top and the rest of the features at the bottom. Users might think the program is primarily an antivirus program with a few extra features sprinkled in. When you're dealing with internet security suites, all of the features in the program have to work together and none should take precedence over the others. In the case of G Data Internet Security, it seems like the antivirus function is the star of the show.
